Fade Away

Apprise it, explain it, express it.
If it’s not now, possibly it’s never.
Options are at your disposal,
Open up and face the situation to know
If it’s a clear rejection or a prompt acceptance.
Or treasure it to sue yourself into dismay.
Regret and repentance are now ready for an ambush
To tear you apart and break you down inch by inch.
You are frozen to bones; choked to death.
You are breathing but burned
You are alive but dead inside.
After all, it does hurt to see her and your friend
Together, giving their wedding card.
“You’d dreamed of my wedding, didn’t you? ” she asked.
You nodded with an unusual smile while your inner voice
Whispered, “Oh yes. But, with me. And me alone.”
But now all you can do is,
Remember, realize, regret and repeat
To see yourself fade away in the darkest nights.
